This project was for the Graphic Design Capstone class series I took in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 at Oregon State, where we were tasked with creating a project to showcase our design skills and passions. The end goal was to present this project at the Graphic Design Senior Capstone Show.
I decided to create a book and supporting materials about mindfulness techniques in addition to coloring pages. I have struggled with mental health throughout my life and have had my own experiences with therapy and mindfulness techniques. I also found comfort and relaxation from adult coloring. These two things inspired me to choose this topic and create a book. In the mental health category, there are a variety of books out there about mindfulness, but none that include both mindful exercises/information and coloring pages. I think a book that combines the ideas of mindfulness and coloring would be beneficial to a wide range of people, including the everyday person. Deliverables included research, the book, stickers, a promotional video, and coloring page print-outs.
A Mindful Life Book
I designed every detail in this book from the layout, to the illustrations, to the typography. I started this project by doing a lot of research about Mindfulness techniques and the benefits of coloring. I used this information to write the copy (references were at the end). Once that was done, I created the mandalas, illustrations, and decided the layout. I went through several revisions before I came to the final product, which I was very pleased with.
I used Adobe InDesign for the layout, and Adobe Illustrator and Fresco to create the drawings and mandalas. I got several copies printed through Oregon State Printing and Mailing.
Additional Deliverables
In addition to the book, I wanted to have other materials to go with it. I designed stickers by digitally coloring the mandalas I created. I left these for viewers to take in addition to coloring page print-outs (download with button below) to make my project memorable. I also included my I-Pad with my portfolio website displayed if anyone wanted to see more content. I had a name plate and business cards as well. These photos were taken at the event itself where we each had our own table.

This is a promotional video I created featuring my book. I included a time lapse of me coloring one of the pages with a voice-over discussing the book.
